HELP BUILD A NEW SAFEHAVEN
HELP BUILD A NEW SAFEHAVEN
WHERE HOPE LIVES
A new model of care for the individuals the system was never built to support.
Advances in medicine are enabling children, youth, and adults with medical complexity to live longer, fuller lives. Yet the systems designed to support them were never built for longevity.
Today, 1 in 100 children in Canada lives with medical complexity, and that number is growing. Care remains heavily centred in hospitals or with families under significant strain, with limited inclusive, community-based options available across the lifespan. This is not only a local challenge, but a national issue demanding new models of care.
Where Hope Lives is Safehaven’s vision to respond to this growing need by creating a new model of care that supports individuals with complex medical needs to live in the community, with dignity, belonging, and the specialized care they require.

THE CHALLENGE
Children with complex medical needs often remain in the hospital long after acute care is no longer required. This is not because it is best for them, but because there is nowhere else to go. Others remain at home in unsustainable circumstances, despite extraordinary parental effort.
Families face relentless caregiving demands, emotional and physical exhaustion, lost income, and uncertainty about the future.

AN INVITATION TO BUILD A LEGACY
The redevelopment will triple Safehaven’s capacity, reduce avoidable hospital stays, and support individuals, including adults aging out of pediatric care, to live in the community with appropriate supports.
What is built here will shape how Canada cares for medically complex people for decades to come.
The Where Hope Lives Campaign represents the most ambitious initiative in Safehaven’s history and a rare opportunity to invest in infrastructure with lasting national impact. Your support will help ensure that no family faces medical complexity alone and that every person, regardless of need, has a place to belong, grow, and thrive.
