Safehaven featured in CP24 for receiving 1,000 COVID-19 Rapid Test Kits from Ontario Government and BD-Canada

Premier Doug Ford, Associate Minister for Women’s and Children’s Issues Jill Dunlop, and BD-Canada visited Safehaven to donate 1,000 COVID-19 rapid test kits.

Both the Ontario Government and BD-Canada recognize Safehaven’s leading role in COVID-19 infection prevention and control, particularly among vulnerable populations. With rapid testing, our frontline healthcare providers can test, trace, and isolate cases within minutes, allowing them to focus on exceptional care.

“Rapid tests are a massive gamechanger in our work to stop the spread of COVID-19 and keep Ontarians safe and healthy,” said Premier Doug Ford. “These tests are crucial because they can turn around results in minutes instead of days and they also make reporting to public health easier, meaning the incredible staff at places like Safehaven can focus on the people, rather than the paperwork.”

Of the donation, Greg Miziolek, President of BD-Canada said “we know that congregate living facilities are in great need of rapid testing solutions and result reporting is an important part of the COVID-19 response. We are pleased to be making this significant contribution to Safehaven and our hope is that the rapid tests will help keep their community safe by enabling staff to quickly implement public health measures and focus on providing care.”

Rapid testing will enable organizations like Safehaven to respond in a timely manner to positive COVID-19 tests that can facilitate the early implementation of infection prevention and control measures, in order to reduce the spread of the virus that can potentially save lives and reduce poor outcomes for vulnerable individuals in congregate settings,” said Susan Bisaillon, RN, M Sc., CEO, Safehaven.

These innovative rapid tests also feature less invasive sample collection methods, allowing us to accommodate the complex medical needs of our clients. These tests maintain a high-quality result, and quickly provide actionable insights into our infection control measures.

The BD Veritor Plus System is now rolling out for use across Safehaven’s sites, and is expected to help us curb the spread of infection among our clients, all of whom comprise a vulnerable population that requires added care and protection at this time of global pandemic.
